This qualification reflects the role of building professionals who apply knowledge of structural principles, risk and financial management, estimating, preparing and administering building and construction contracts, selecting contractors, overseeing the work and its quality and managing construction work in building projects including residential and commercial with the following limitations: a. Residential construction limited to National Construction Code Class 1 and 10 buildings to a maximum of 3 storeys. b. Commercial construction limited to National Construction Code Class 2 to 9 buildings, Type C and B construction.

Full Course
The Full Course is delivered full time over 65 weeks, 60 weeks of scheduled classes, 5 weeks for breaks.
Pathways Course
The Pathways course is delivered over 52 weeks, with 48 weeks of scheduled classes and 4 weeks for breaks.
Students would have completed the CPC40120 Certificate IV in Building and Construction. Students will be eligible for course credits towards the completion of the CPC50220 Diploma of Building and Construction (Building).
- Where students successfully apply for Credit Transfer (CT) and/or Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL), the course duration may be shortened accordingly and adjustments will be made to any CoE issued.

St Peter Institute has the following entry requirements:
International students must:
- be at least 18 years of age and have completed Year 11 or equivalent.
- participate in a course entry interview to determine suitability for the course and student needs. The course entry interview will also assess language, literacy and numeracy (LLN) and whether students can use digital technologies.
- have an IELTS* score of 6.0 (test results must be no more than 2 years old).
- hold CPCWHS1001 Prepare to work safely in the construction industry (white card).
English language competence can also be demonstrated through documented evidence of any of the following:
- have completed a Certificate IV or above in Australia within the last 2 years
- educated for 5 years in an English-speaking country.
*Note that other English language tests such as PTE and TOEFL can be accepted, see full list available here. Students are required to provide their results so that it can be confirmed they are equivalent to IELTS 6.0
Students with English Language Tests that are equivalent to IELTS 5.0 or above can also be eligible for entry into this course by participating in an ELICOS course (English classes) with SPI prior to entry into this course. Please contact SPI for more information.
St Peter Institute will assist students in making arrangements to obtain the CPCWHS1001 unit.
Assessments will be conducted face to face which could include:
- Direct observation of practical tasks in simulated workplace environments related to building and construction activities.
- Project-based assessments, including development of building plans, construction schedules, cost estimations, and site documentation.
- Written assessments, including knowledge questions, reports, and case studies related to construction management and compliance requirements.
- Workplace or simulated workplace tasks that reflect real construction project scenarios.
- Trainer questioning and discussions to confirm understanding of building regulations, project management processes, and workplace safety requirements.
A combination of these assessment methods ensures students demonstrate both theoretical knowledge and practical application relevant to construction project management.
Job roles and titles vary across different industry sectors. Possible job titles relevant to this qualification include:
- Builder (pathway)
- General Foreperson
- Building Inspector
- Face to face delivery at our Melbourne Campus and practical workshop sessions at 235 Ingles Street, Port Melbourne VIC 3207.
- 20 hours per week of classroom and workshop based training and assessment.
- 5 hours of self study including structured self-directed learning and completing assessment work started in class.
- Up to one hour per week of individual support if required.

Builder licensing varies across States and Territories and requirements additional to the attainment of this qualification may be required.
